Everyone needs an escape now and then. Whether from the rigors of spring cleaning, garden planting or the daily drudgeries that tie us down, we all need a diversion.
The RAAC Community Theatre is ready to help by providing highly talented actors to facilitate a getaway.
Just come to the RAAC Theatre at 8 p.m. April 23 or 5 p.m. April 24. Luggage won’t be necessary as the theatre troupe spirits the audience away for an evening of entertainment.
The production, titled “What’s So Funny,” consists of several vignettes. “Checkers,” a Dale Doerman comedy starring Joyce Abell and Andy Platt, tells the story of an elderly couple on the fringes of sanity who use the game of checkers to wage and win old battles.
Howard Coon will be on hand to perform a couple of monologues from Mark Twain’s “Extracts From Adam’s Diary” in which Adam, our theoretical ancestor, complains about the new and bossy creature that has come into his life.
The next part of the theatrical escape consists of four vignettes, each a scene from Neil Simon’s “The Good Doctor” and every one a loving, good-natured spoof of Anton Chekhov short stories. The scenes feature Norman Getsinger, Stephanie Mastri Andy Platt, Gary Grossman, Erin Switzer, Donald Chandler, Patty Hardee and Peter Hornbostel.
