Castleton Festival needs volunteers

From contributed reports
The Castleton Festival returns this July with an impressive array of opera and concert performances and an additional full week of programs. The music of Puccini takes center stage with a new production of the beguiling one-act operas that comprise “Il Trittico ― Il tabarro,” “Suor Angelica” and “Gianni Schicchi.” The Festival Orchestra gives four symphonic concerts of popular Italian, French and American masterpieces, with an all-Beethoven program to conclude the festival.

The Castleton Festival would not be possible without the generosity of our neighbors who help us house and transport nearly 200 young artists. Last year, more than 40 families volunteered an extra room, cottage or even an entire house for artists to reside in during their stay. Rooms are needed throughout the festival period, June 21 to July 25.

In addition to housing, the Castleton Festival needs volunteers for a wide variety of tasks, including transportation, Castleton Farm tour guides, stage hands, concessions, ushering, valet parking assistance and costume shop assistance. Join Maestro Lorin Maazel and our company of young artists during a festival that promises to be even bigger and more thrilling than our inaugural season, while remaining true to the intimate scale that makes the Castleton experience so special.

If you are interested in offering accommodations or volunteering your time for this year’s Festival, please contact Melanie Kopjanski, the festival’s volunteer coordinator, at mkopjanski@aol.com.
