Out of the Attic

Rae's Restaurant, Washington, Va., 1982.

This photo was taken at Rae’s Restaurant — circa 1982 — in Washington. You’re looking at the space today occupied by the Country Cafe, though Rae’s also included what is now the Post Office next door. It was sent in by Sandra Cartwright-Brown, who is seated at the table in front with Dan Lewis; directly behind them Kathryn and Bob Treanor sit at a table near which, on the right, Sally Nash is standing. Seated far right against the window is Elaine Day. The final reminder that time marches on, no matter what: This Saturday at 11, with a preview noon to 7 Friday, Rae Gaedke is holding an auction at her last namesake restaurant, at 20 Main St. in Sperryville — including restaurant and home furnishings, basically everything she’s collected over the years. Rae is headed to Florida to look after her mother.
