An apparent victim of the spooky spirit of Halloween, this maimed scarecrow has been keeping away pesky birds – and probably more than a few door-to-door salesmen – for the past couple of weeks at Bobby and Mary Ann Jenkins’ place on U.S. 211 in Sperryville. There are an assortment of Halloween events planned around the county this weekend, including Flint Hill’s haunted house Thursday-Monday, several churches’ Trunk-or-Treat events and the town of Washington’s annual open-door policy – Monday evening, Oct. 31 – wherein trick-or-treaters are welcome at most any home and business in town, and a fully decorated Trinity Episcopal Church offers hot dogs and refreshments starting at 6 p.m.
