Master woodcarver Chris Lubkemann plays rhythm sticks with kindergarten and pre-K students during a visit last month to Wakefield Country Day School (where Lubkemann has a grandchild in first grade). Lubkemann taught the students about wood and demonstrated his whittling skills, displayed a table-full of his carvings and showed the group how different sizes and types of wood make different noises when banged together, after which the kids received their own homemade rhythm sticks.
