Bears – some of Rappahannock County’s earliest settlers – have been active this spring, including this youngish black bear who perched, contentedly and periodically over two days earlier this week, in a mulberry tree beside Mayhugh’s store in Amissville. There were no reports of the bear bothering customers, or vice versa. But there are very few mulberries left on the tree.
