Don’t be Lonely at the Top
Tired of reading web text to get your business advice? Feel isolated because you live in a rural area and you don’t have other owners to inspire you? Check out some of the video alternatives for advice and inspiration on the web. I checked out two for you in an effort to make this blog a resource for your business’s growth: www.sbtv.com & www.smallbusinessschool.org. The first of these sites, www.sbtv.com (Small Business TV), is free to the user. It provides video clips on entrepreneurial success. You can also see and hear advice from experts on subjects like money, marketing, and management---all on video. Another nifty feature is a bookstore, with recommendations by searchable subject category on “must read” books for entrepreneurs. This online site links to www. dreamhousepublishing.com for ease of ordering and prices that beat those of amazon.com. The second site, www.smallbusinesschool.com, is the “grand-daddy” of newer sites that were made possible with video streaming technology. It has an annual membership fee ($49), but it well worth the cost. The Small Business School grew out of the video episodes on small business that Hattie Bryant and Bruce Camber began making for PBS in 1995. Originally called Small Business Today the name was changed in 2001 to the Small Business School. The goal of the site is to both “inform and inspire” small business owners to greater success. Using software systems mimicking human intuition, the site is a valuable resource where small business owners can get real answers to questions about their businesses, as well as learn about best business practices. It has an incredible archive of video episodes where successful small business owners share their stories and management tips. A nifty feature on this site is the fact that the videos are grouped under an 8-step path in business growth, from start-up to exit. Your membership also gives you the option to “opt-in” to have new video clips emailed to you. Do you know of other internet based small business video resources? If so, share them with us here , by commenting on this blog.©Charlotte Taylor, 2008About the Blogger: Charlotte Taylor started her business CTA Management Group, Inc., which trades as Venture Concepts, ® in 1981.
