Icky, icky cereal

Hey guys it's Liz here with a baby update.

Well, little Haydin has reached that milestone where she's finally ready for solid (well... actually MUSHY) food!

She's 4 1/2 months old, and for the past few weeks she's been watching us very intently every time we're eating around her.

She's also started teething a little bit, and she puts absolutely anything she can grab into her mouth.

So... when we last visited her pediatrician she said we can start her on rice cereal!

I started putting just a few tablespoons of cereal into her formula twice a day and spoon feeding it to her.

Happy, good-natured, little Haydin has never been SO fussy with food until now.

I don't know if it's the spoon or the slightly different flavor of the cereal, but she can't seem to realize that it is food I am trying to give her and not some form of torture!

Every time I give her a bit, she scrinches up her face like she's just experienced the worst flavor in the world and immediately pushes just about all of it out of her mouth! She's very very good at NOT swallowing it at all.

She'll gnaw on an empty spoon though, and grab it and play with it... so I guess she just doesn't understand why I am putting that mush into her mouth when she's used to having a nice bottle to suck on and snuggle up to.

I try to do the airplane, I make funny faces and sounds and pretend the cereal is soooo yummy! But even after about a week she can't seem to get the hang of it. She'll tolerate 10 – 15 spoonfuls pretty well, but then she gets frustrated and starts to cry.

I always give up about 20-25 spoons in and just put the cereal mix into a bottle for her to drink, which she does with MUCH pleasure.

Once that stuff is in her bottle, she'll grasp it with both hands, lean back and start chugging.

I am going to be persistent, everyone tells me it takes them awhile to catch on to this. It's just funny how this little girl could hate rice cereal so much! It's like she's determined to piss me off. :)
