Missing items
A woman called the Rappahannock County Sheriff's Office on April 16 to report that several items had been stolen from her home on Russell Lane in Amissville.
According to the sheriff's report, she said she was missing 100 Percocet pills, a gold band, a diamond ring, a six-diamond cluster on a wide gold band and a mother's ring with five stones in it.
She told the sheriff's office that some of the items have been missing for as long as two months.
Sheriff Connie Smith said there was no sign of a break-in at the house. The sheriff's office has a suspect in the case, but has not made any arrests, Smith said.
High-speed chase
A high-speed chase on April 17 in Castleton resulted in several charges against a local man.
According to the Virginia State Police, the chase began around 10:22 p.m. when State Trooper Phillip Thomas observed a dark Cadillac crossing into the left lane of Viewtown Road. The vehicle, driven by 26-year-old Castleton resident Mark Justin Komar, also had missing tail lights, according to the report. Thomas activated his cruiser's lights and siren, and Komar sped off, the report said.
The 8.7-mile chase proceeded down several roads in the Castleton area and reportedly lasted about eight minutes. The State Police report said the maximum speed of the vehicles during the chase was 114 miles per hour. Thomas' pursuit ended on Laurel Mills Road and Komar was apprehended without further incident.
The Castleton man was charged with a felony for eluding police; he was also charged with driving under the influence and missing tail lights.
Another theft?
A man called the RCSO on Friday to report that $80 in cash and his late wife's gold wedding band were missing from his home on Thornton Gap Church Road in Sperryville.
According to the sheriff's report, the gold band was valued at $400. Sheriff Smith said there was no sign of a break-in at the house. There is a suspect in the case, but no arrest has been made, she said.
Off the road
Dylan Weber, of Charlottesville, crashed his 1991 Subaru Legacy on Friday while driving southbound on F.T. Valley Road. The single-vehicle accident occurred around 12:45 a.m.
According to the Virginia State Police report, Weber fell asleep and hit a fence on the right side of the road. The wreck caused an estimated $6,000 worth of damage to his car and $900 of damage to the fence. The 20-year-old man was charged with driving with a suspended license and reckless driving for failure to maintain control of his vehicle.
