The sweet sound of music filled the Rappahannock High School Auditorium last Thursday.

Twenty-five students of all ages performed pieces ranging from "Mary Had a Little Lamb" to Beethoven's Sonatina in G major at the second annual spring recital for the Rappahannock Lesson Program.

Approximately 70 students take lessons through the program, which recruits teachers primarily from the Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester.

Anyone can sign up for weekly half-hour instruction on their instrument of choice. A $16 fee is charged for each session, but scholarships are available for students of need.

"The kids can get lessons if they want," said Kathryn Treanor, who founded the program.

Lessons are held at Rappahannock County High School, but draw students from within the county and beyond, Treanor said.
