Chappell's Corner
No price increase for student breakfasts, lunch
The School Board approved in July Supt. Bob Chappell's recommendation to keep student breakfast and lunch prices the same for 2008-09 and expressed hope that it does not become necessary to increase prices mid-year. Ala carte and prices for adult meals increased.
In an effort to prevent price increases mid-year the cafeteria program is taking the following steps to boost participation: Reduce time spent by RCHS students in lines by renovating the serving area into a Panther Café with five stations for Pizza, grab-n-go subs, potato bar, salad bar, and hot lunch du jour;
Provide more lunch choices for RCES students at least two days a week;
Send by mail in August free/reduced lunch applications to all families.
"With the economy the way it is, families may be surprised to find out they are eligible for at least the reduced prices," said Chappell.
"The reduced price lunch is 40 cents and the application process is completely confidential. In the lunch line all students punch in a three-digit number whether they are on full pay, free or reduced lunch.
" Parents, when you get the free/reduced application in the mail, we urge you to fill out and return the application in the stamped envelope we provide," he said.
