Rappahannock County 2008-2009 school bus routes
These are the school bus routes for the school year that starts Aug. 25. Students are urged to be at their pickup points at least 15 minutes early the first day of school, Monday, Aug. 25. Some bus numbers and route descriptions have been altered from last year.
Please address bus route questions to Tim Beahm, Transportation Supervisor, at 987-8591. Overcrowding or safety concerns may necessitate further route changes. It is suggested that parents of new or very young students have them ride the bus to school the first morning, rather than driving them to school, so that they will know which bus to get on in the afternoon.
Bus 1 – Chris Keyser, driver. Rappahannock Lakes/Flint Hill. Start at approximately 7 a.m., from Flint Hill on Rt. 647 East (Crest Hill Rd.) to turnaround at the county line; left on Route 637 (South Poes Rd). Left on Route 645 East (Hackley’s Mill Rd.) to Rappahannock Lakes. Turn around at Lake Drive. Travel back on Route 645 West (Hackley’s Mill Rd.). Left on Route 637 South (South Poes Rd.). Right on Route 211 West to high school.
PM Route – Reverse AM.
Bus 3 –Phyllis Poore, driver. Amissville area. Start at approximately 7:10 a.m. heading east on Route 211 from Route 729 and pickup at Hackley's Store at intersection of Route 642. Turnaround and proceed west on Route 211, right on Route 643 about two miles to turnaround, right on Route 211 and pickup at Valhalla Lane.

Bus 4 – Charles Jenkins, driver. Gid Brown / Harris Hollow/Town of Washington. Start on Route 622 from Route 211 at approximately 7:05 a.m.; left on 614 to turnaround, pick up on 614 to left on 623; left on Route 622; left on Route 625 to turnaround; left on Route 622; left on Route 624 to turnaround; left on Route 622; right on Main Street; right on Piedmont Avenue, one mile to turnaround. Right on Gay Street; right on Porter Street.; left on Main Street. Right on 211 to high school. PM Route – Reverse AM.
Bus 5 - Barbara Gore, driver. Rock Mills Area. Start at approximately 7:25 a.m. at Rock Mills heading east on Route 622; right on Route 729; right on Route 618; right on Route 619; right on Route 626; left on Route 622 and pickup to Route 211. PM route - same as AM.
Bus 9 – Eddie Gore, driver. Chester Gap. Start at approximately 7:20 a.m. on Chester Gap. Proceed up Chester Gap mountain past the store to the turnaround at the top. No pickups going up mountain, pickup coming down mountain only. PM route - same as AM.
Bus 10 – Bertha Jacobs, driver. Viewtown area. Starts at approximately 7:10 a.m., at Jacobs Ladder Lane on Route 642 Viewtown Rd., heading towards Route 640; left on Route 640 Forrest Grove Road to turnaround. Right on Route 642 Viewtown Road; right on Dodson Road to turnaround; right on Route 642 Viewtown Road ; right on Route 611 Waterford Road to turnaround; left on Route 642 Viewtown Road; right on Route 611 Seven Ponds Road.; left on 211 (no pickups) to school. PM Route – Reverse AM.
Bus 11 – James Jacobs, driver. Castleton area. Start at approximately 7:10 a.m. Left (go south) on Route 729 from Route 640; right on Route 615. Left on Turkey Ridge Road to turn around; right on 615; left on 649; left on 618 (no pickups on 618); right on Route 626 Wharton Hollow Rd., and pickup to Lizzie Mills Rd.; continue on 626 (no pickups); left on Route 622 (no pickups); left on Route 211 to school (no pickups.) PM Route – Reverse AM.
Bus 12 – Mike Taubenberger, driver. Ben Venue/Fodderstack/ Tiger Valley/Hunters Road / Grandview Area. Start at approximately 7 a.m., on Route 729 from Ben Venue towards Flint Hill; right on Route 522 (no pickups); left on Route 641 Fodderstack Road, right on Caledonia Farm Road one mile to turnaround; right on Fodderstack to Little Washington; left on Middle Street; right on 211 (no pickups); left on Route 626 Tiger Valley Road three miles to turnaround; left on Route 621 Hunters Road; left on Grandview Avenue one mile to turnaround; left on 621 Hunters Road; right on 622 Rock Mills Road (no pickups); left on Route 211 to high school. PM route – reverse AM.
Bus 13 - Ginger Estes, driver. Chester Gap. Start at approximately 7:20 a.m., on Route 522 north starting at intersection with Route 632 and pick up on right side up to top of mountain. Turn left on Route 610; pickup at store; turn on Route 670, go to Chester Gap Fire Department parking lot; left on Route 660, pickup; continue on to end of Route 610. Right on Route 522 and pick up on right side of road down the mountain to Route 632. No pickups rest of way to school. PM route – Same as AM.
Bus 15 – Mary Bailey. Amissville. Start at approximately 7:05 a.m., on Route 642 (at intersection with Route 611 Waterford Road) towards Route 211; right on Route 211; pickups to Route 730. Right on 730 to turnaround; right on Route 211 and continue to left on Route 613; left on Route 669 about 1 ½ miles to turnaround; right on Route 613, right on Route 211 and pick up to Route 642. PM Route – same as AM.
Bus 16 - Robin Frye, driver. Amissville area. Start at approximately 7:10 a.m., on Route 211 at Hillsdale Store pickup up to Route 729; right on Route 729 ; left on 640 N; right on Route 211 to crossover near Cabin Lane. Pickup on Route 211 up to Washington. PM Route same as AM. Note: This bus stops at CCLC in AM and PM.
Bus 18 – Tom Pendleton, driver. Scrabble / Woodville. Start at approximately 7:15 a.m., from Scrabble on Route 522 south and pickup up to county line; left on Route 650; right on Route 615 about one mile to turnaround; left on Route 650 (no pickups); right on Route 522 and pickup on Route 522 from county line up to (but not including) Woodville; left on 618 to turnaround. Left on 522 (no pickups); right on Route 621; right on Route 620 to turnaround; pickup up to Route 522. Right on 522 and pickup to Route 231; continue Route 522 (no pickups) to school. PM Route – Reverse AM.
Bus 19 - Charles Racer, driver. Slate Mills. Start at approximately 7:05 a.m., on Route 605; continue on Route 707 to intersection with Route 231 heading toward Slate Mills; right on Route 644 to turnaround; left on Route 707; right on Route 604; left on Route 522 and pickup up starting in Woodville up to Route 620. PM Route - Reverse AM
Bus 21 - Charlotte Turnmeyer, driver. Huntly and Flint Hill area. Bus with wheelchair lift stops as necessary. Starts at approximately 7:05 a.m., on Swayback Lane and North Poes Road/Jericho Road to turnaround, Left on Route 522 (no pick ups); right on Route 630, right on 631 to turnaround; left on 630; right on Route 628; right on Route 663 about one mile to turnaround; right on Route 628; left on Route 659; right on Route 641; left on Aileen Road, right on Route 522 to school (no pick-ups). PM Route – Reverse AM.
Bus 22 John Eubank, driver. Start 7:12 a.m., Route 612 Old Hollow Road to Route 653 to Route 600 Swindler Hollow Road; right on Thornton Gap Church Road to turnaround; right on Old Hollow Road. Right on 211; right on Atkins Road to turnaround; right on 211 to Hearthstone School (turnaround) pickup 211 East to right on Route 1001 at bridge into Sperryville; left at stop sign; right on 211 pickup to school. PM Route Reverse AM.
Bus 23 David Davis, driver. Castleton. Start at approximately 7:10 a.m. South on 618, first stop is after Route 649, first driveway on right. Continue on Route 618; it will become Route 617. Continue straight on Route 617, which becomes Route 615. Continue to top of the hill to turnaround. Return to left on Route 618 Hope Hill Road. Continue on Hope Hill Road., which will become Route 626 Scrabble Road; right on Route 522, (no pickups) to school. PM Route Reverse AM.
Bus 26 Kathy Smoot, driver. Huntly / Flint Hill. Start at approximately 7:10 a.m., heading north on Route 522 with first pickup on right just at intersection with Route 641; pick up from there to right on Route 662 (Little Long Mountain Road) about two miles to turnaround; right on Route 522; right on Route 635 (Hume Road) about 1/8 mile to turnaround; right on Route 522 (no pickups); left on Chester Gap Circle.; right on Route 522 (no pickups on Route 522 until after Route 630, Packing Shed Road.); right on Route 677 (Mountain View Road) about ½ mile to turnaround. Right on Route 522 and pickup to Massie's Corner. PM Route - same as AM.
Bus 27 Christine Timbers, driver. FT Valley/Jenkins Hollow area. Start at approximately 7:15 a.m., at next driveway past Sharp Rock Farm on Route 602; left on Route 231; left on Route 681 to turnaround; left on Route 231; right on Route 621 Yancey Road to turnaround; right on Route 231; left on Route 608 to turnaround at intersection of 608 & 600. Left on Route 231. Left on Route 522. Right on Water Street and pickup to Route 211. Right on Route 211 (no pickups) to school.
