Vanderwarker elected chairman

Tony Vanderwarker of Albemarle County has been elected by the Board of Directors of the Piedmont Environmental Council as Chairman of the Board. Vanderwarker, who served as a Vice-Chairman, succeeds the late Eve Prime Fout of Fauquier County who passed away in December 2007.

"I am honored to be elected by our Board to lead this vibrant, active organization. PEC works hard to protect the rights of individuals to enjoy the environmental, scenic and historic resources that make Albemarle County and all of the Piedmont a great place to live, work and raise a family. Eve Fout was a great Chairman and I look forward to picking up where she left off," said Vanderwarker.

Tony Vanderwarker was a founder and the creative director at one of Chicago's largest independent ad agencies, Bayer Bess Vanderwarker. Prior to forming his own agency, he was Chief Creative Director and on the board of Needham Harper Worldwide in New York. Moving to Charlottesville in the early 90s, he now serves on the board of Charlottesville Tomorrow; co-chairs the Albemarle PEC board, and is on the board of the Virginia League of Conservation Voters.

"Tony has been active leader with the PEC Board for nearly a decade," said Christopher G. Miller, President of PEC. "We are excited to have someone with such vision, tenacity and positive spirit as Chairman."

Mr. Vanderwarker went to Andover and Yale and graduated from New York University. He served in the Peace Corps in the Republic of Guinea. Mr. Vanderwarker and his wife Anne live in Keswick.
