Hospice of the Rapidan to honor Clarissa Leggett
Clarissa Leggett of Rappahannock County is one of five community members who will be honored by Hospice of the Rapidan at its Silver Anniversary Gala in October.
The gala will honor one person from each of the counties in which it cares for patients: Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock.
The event will be held Saturday, Oct. 11, from 6 p.m. to midnight. The black-tie affair includes a silent and live auction and dinner and dancing. A commemorative journal also will be produced for the event.
Leggett has a long association with Hospice of the Rapidan and served on its Board of Directors.
“Clarissa has been a loyal supporter of Hospice of the Rapidan and has been a key contributor to the Rappahannock County community,” said Kathy Clements, executive director. “She is an example of someone who knows how to make a real difference by giving back to the community she calls home,” said Clements.
Leggett was a U.S. Magistrate in Rappahannock County, and her husband, Eugene Leggett, is mayor of Washington, Va. She also has served on the Board of Directors of the Childcare and Learning Center in Rappahannock. The Leggetts have been residents of the county for nearly 30 years.
“I am pleased to accept this wonderful honor. Hospice of the Rapidan is an organization that is dear to my heart,” said Leggett. “It makes such a difference for families at a time when they need it so much.”
Four additional honorees are: John J. “Butch” Davies of Culpeper; Karen Henderson of Fauquier; Del. Ed Scott of Madison; and Dr. Randolph Merrick of Orange.
Persons interested in serving on the gala committee or in attending the event may contact Rose Cornelious at 540-825-4840.
