Sports program benefits from pageant

Organized to benefit the Rappahannock County School Sports Association, Terri Diley, along with a cadre of supporters, hosted the 2008 Miss Skyline Pageant on April 26. The event was held in the auditorium at Rappahannock County High School.

Winners in each category included:

Wee Miss: Winner Lindsay McDaniel; 1st Runner-up Caleigh Kidwell; 2nd Chloe Zamudio

Tiny Miss:Winner Madyson Gibson; 1st Runner-up Carrington Wayland; 2nd Abigail Berry

Pre-Teen: Winner Taylor Yowell; 1st Runner-up Hanna Klein; 2nd Kaila Paugh

Teen: Winner Keriann Ketterman; 1st Runner-up Brittany Atkins; 2nd Carly Day

Miss: Winner Rachel Beeler; 1st Runner-up Katlin Carpenter; 2nd Christina Hansbrough

Queen: Winner Lavonna Adkins; 1st Runner-up Melanie Torrance; 2nd Sherri Woodward

King: Winner Dave Gillis; 1st Runner-up Kevin Day; 2nd Mike Williams

Also, of interest to the county this pageant brought in $8, 400.00 for the Rappahannock County School Sports Association. Contestants received $2,000 in cash awards, crowns and trophies, all of which were donated by wonderful sponsors.

"That is great for a first year pageant with little time for planning," said Diley. "We received strong support from surrounding counties. Our judges were certified with the Miss Virginia Organization whose mission is in part to advocate community service, and provide young women with a forum in which to express their talents, intelligence and opinions in culture, politics, platforms, and the community."

Personal interviews, on-stage interviews and questions were designed with this mission in mind. Several young ladies expressed apprehension about personal interviews. Diley them "not to worry because if they are going to have a bad interview, far better to do it now than in front of a college entrance committee or the decision maker in an interview for the job of their dreams."

The judges expressed a desire to encourage three of the contestants to further pursue their pageantry to the next level.

"What an honor and they were contestants all from our county," added Diley.
