Barrels bloomin' in Washington
By Jan Clatterbuck
Barrel Lady
The barrels in town have been planted for spring, and several people have volunteered to take care of them for the summer. The barrel lady, Claudia Mitchell, wishes to thank them and hopes everyone enjoys the colorful additions, thanks to the efforts of these volunteers: Kevin Adams and Jay Brown, the trustees of the jail; Jan Clatterbuck; The Inn
at Little Washington; the ladies at the health department; Lisa Leftwich; Diane Bruce; Barbara Heile; Laura Dodd; and Sharon Walbridge. During the heat of the summer, this is an every day job. Many, many thanks to all of you who will keep the barrels in bloom.
Congratulations, Katherine
Katherine Elizabeth Giles, of Washington, Va. graduated from James Madison University on May 3, with a bachelor of arts degree in art history. She is the daughter of Pat and Skippy Giles.

Rain Rain go away
Most of us wanted the rain, but some are learning to be careful what we wish for. Some places have gotten too much of a good thing.
Down Long Mountain Road, they got a downpour on Thursday night. Hugh Smith's trailer, used to haul furniture, got washed downstream about a half-mile.
