WVFR launches new Web site

Washington Volunteer Fire and Rescue (WVFR) has launched a Web site to raise awareness in the community.

The Web site has details on WVFR's officers, operations, and ways the community can support them as they rely heavily on donations to function. Volunteers are always welcome.

The site also contains a calendar of upcoming events at the Fire Hall. There are photos of a new tanker and details on the sale of an existing tanker. They even have a photo gallery where they share pictures of accidents and incidents where they intervened, training photos, fire photos and fun stuff like its traditional Easter egg hunt.

The Web site was designed by volunteer Sylvie Rowand.

Celebrating 126 years

Washington Baptist Church is celebrating its 126th Anniversary and Homecoming Day on Sunday, Oct. 5. The church is delighted to have former pastor Dr. Steve Scoggin and his wife Nancy returning to share the day with them.

Rev. Scoggin will tell stories of his former days in our county at 9:45 a.m. and then he will preach at the 11 a.m. worship service. Also returning are Donn and Melody Hackney and family. Donn was a former teacher in our Rappahannock County school system and Melody will sing for us. They would like to encourage all their friends to come and enjoy the day with them. There will be a covered dish fellowship meal following the morning service and all are invited to attend. For more information call 675-3336.

Richard Lykes

The breeze is blowing gently outside the Rappahannock News' office rustling the leaves in the trees that are beginning to show a hint of fall color. Rappahannock is truly blessed for the beauty of fall foliage.

Rappahannock is also blessed to have as one of its residents, photojournalist Richard Lykes.

Richard is a freelance photographer for the Rappahannock News and takes beautiful photos.

As many of you know, he has had a pericardium sac removed from around his heart. He is still in ICU at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C. Please take time out and remember Richard in your prayers.

Free haircuts

Kim Nelson announced the latest two winners for a free haircut at Washington's Hair Gallery. They are Bobbie Jean Bryce of Amissville and Kelsey Parker of Washington.

The Rappahannock News staff would like to thank Betty Grigsby for bringing by some homemade cinnamon rolls on Tuesday afternoon. It is our late night at the paper and they were greatly appreciated.
