Whiting exhibit brings 'record' crowd

The Caulfield Gallery had a “record turnout” for William Whiting's new exhibit with the opening reception lasting almost two hours longer than planned. Many of Mr. Whiting's paintings were purchased by his admirers and collectors. The show lasts until Oct. 27 and all are invited to stop by the gallery to enjoy this beautiful exhibit of paintings of Rappahannock County.

Card signing

The community card signing for photojournalist Richard Lykes was so popular that by the end of Saturday the 32" x 40" card was completely full. A second large card was made for more to sign on Sunday. Sunday's card also filled up with wishes of healing, recovery, love, prayers and good cheer for Richard, who is recovering from heart surgery in a D.C. hospital. The cards will be delivered to him this week with the hope of lifting his spirits and letting him know how much he means to his community.

Ham and oysters

Now it's time to take a break from mowing the yard or painting the fence or working in the garden. Head down to the Washington Volunteer Fire Department on Oct. 25 from 5-9 p.m., for its Ham and Oyster dinner.

They are having a spread that you won't believe. The menu consists of Fried Oysters and Oyster Stew, Baked Ham and Country Ham, casseroles, side dishes, vegetables, and for that person with the sweet tooth, they will have lots of desserts. The cost will be $20 per person and $12 for children 10 and under. All proceeds will go toward the new tanker.

Dinner is not the only thing that night. There will be a gun raffle drawing at 7 p.m. It is still not too late to get your tickets. Give D J Frye a call at 540-937-0633 or Danny Huff at 540-270-3203. Hope to see you all there!

Belated wishes go out to Chris Keyser, who celebrated his day on Oct. 11.

Appreciation Day
