New Women's Support Group to hold weekly meetings

A new Women’s Support Group will meet weekly in the second floor meeting room at The LINK beginning Sept. 8 from 2-3 p.m.

There is no fee and no need to sign up in advance for this group. Jeanie Raven from SAFE wants this to be a safe place where women can talk freely about family, children, employment, relationships, self-esteem or about whatever topic they need to share and get support. Call Jeanie at 540-825-8891 for more information. Jeanie is also available to meet by appointment with women at a small office above Horse and Hound in Flint Hill.

Yard sale

Some 1,500 persons responded to homemade signs to come to a community yard sale at The LINK on Aug. 23 and 24.

Although this event was put on by the Rappahannock County Democratic Committee, it was, in essence, a community event. Many of the “customers” were local people who found household items of every kind to meet their needs at very, reasonable prices.

At the end of the two-day sale, quality donations were made to CCLC, the Starfish program, the Senior Center. and Full Circle, a charitable organization in Culpeper.

August celebrations

There is now a special connection between the Inn at Little Washington and Thornton River Grille. On Aug. 4, Tom Nash, chef at TRG and Mary Louise Butt, with the reservations department at the Inn, were married at Reynolds Memorial Baptist Church in Sperryville. We wish them much happiness and many years of love and kindness.

If you have not yet met Helen Wasmund at the distillery, go for a tour and wish her a happy 72nd birthday. You will be enchanted by her smile.

Thank goodness that Lee Anna Whorton is turning 79, thus, giving us an excuse to plan her 80th. Linda Baldwin was overheard telling Lee Anna “Happy Birthday” and already planning a raucous party next year!

Ronnie and Lisa Dodson celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary on Aug. 31. This young couple are among those “been here’s” who have chosen to remain here and contribute in so many ways to the community. Ronnie’s business, D&D Services, is one that many of us cannot do without and he is also a volunteer with the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department. Lisa works at the treasurer’s office and tries to keep up with their daughters’ many activities. Congratulations to Ronnie and Lisa.
