'The Prison Within' opens at The Six Pack Gallery
During the month of September the Six Pack Gallery in “Little” Washington will present "The Prison Within," an installation by Steven Kenny.
Best known for his magic-realist paintings, Kenny has temporarily changed gears and transformed one room of the gallery into a three-dimensional replica of a typical cell inside the Rappahannock County jail.
In keeping with his previous themes, Kenny delves even more deeply into the psychological, emotional and spiritual realms of freedom, transcendence, bondage and captivity. By presenting a realistic version of an actual jail cell, the artist encourages visitors to question their own self-imposed prisons, urging them to look inside and reflect on the ways in which they might unconsciously imprison their individual spirits.
This exhibition runs from Sept. 4-28. An opening reception will be announced shortly.
The Six Pack Gallery is located in the Packing Shed at Gay and Porter streets. Summer hours are 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday through Sunday. Call (540) 675-3410 for more information.
