Massage center owner hopes to open another location

There was a quiet opening of a little massage spa at 261 Main Street in our town on April 19. Six months later, on Oct. 10, Mountain Rose Massage and Energy Center hopes to have another spa - also on Main Street.

Owner Miriam White has finalized a purchase agreement for a house at 329 Main Street, and together with Thora Pullen, hopes to expand the spa to include an Internet café that will offer ready made sandwiches, desserts, specialty salads, smoothies, green drinks and hand-dipped ice cream cones.

“It’s a very exciting time for us here,” said White, in an interview Monday at her new location. “I had always hoped to be able to offer the community a place to go not only for their massage needs, but also hoped to be able to incorporate the ability for them to grab a healthy snack as well.

“By moving into the new location we will be able to spread out and give the customers a bit more room to relax,” she said.

“We are still waiting to go before the Town Council on Oct. 8 for final approval, but we are hopeful that things will go smoothly for them there and that we will be able to open our second location shortly thereafter,” said White.

The timing is such that Mountain Rose Massage and Energy Center will be housed in both of its locations at least through spring of 2009. The 261 Main Street location will begin to offer such things as a tanning salon, and perhaps a therapeutic hot tub spa with massage, while the 329 Main Street location will focus on the quiet massage, esthetician services, and the ability for everyone to grab a healthy bite to eat. There will be seating for customers who want to stay and take advantage of the wireless Internet that will be offered as well.

“We will have plenty of room for everyone to sit and relax, enjoy their friends and some good food,” said Pullen about the Internet cafe side of the endeavor. Essentially there will be two menus in the cafe, both offering specialties from a few of the local bakers. “There will be a menu for people that need to simply ‘grab-n-go’, and there will be things offered so that folks can stay and ‘linger-longer’ if they want,” Pullen added.

Services in the spa will include not only all types of massage and body work, but also esthetician skin services offering facials and body wraps. Hot stones, scrubs, paraffin hand treatments, waxing and a steam table will be offered. There will also be packages of treatments for people who want to enjoy a longer day of relaxation.

“Our focus remains to be on the health and well being of our clients and we intend to spotlight the nourishing benefits of massage, education and healthy eating,” White said. “There will be a book section as well that will offer titles that focus on the different health issues that face us all.”

“As we begin to grow and expand, we are hopeful that we will be able to continue to give compliment to our neighboring businesses by offering things that will benefit us all,” said White. “In these very trying economic times, we hope to be able to fully participate in and offer whatever we can to the community and to the events that make Little Washington and Rappahannock County special for all of us”.

The spa is open seven days a week by appointment with walk-ins always welcome.

Homecoming Day
Washington Baptist Church is delighted to have Dr. Steve Scoggin and his wife Nancy back for their Homecoming Day on Sunday, Oct. 5. Rev. Scoggin is a former pastor of the church and well loved by many in our area. They also are pleased to have Melody and Donn Hackney back with them. Melody will be singing in the morning worship service. Donn was a former teacher and baseball coach at Rappahannock County High School. Melody is currently the Superintendent of Schools in Mecklenburg County, Va., and Donn teaches there. They would love to see many of their old friends. The morning service will begin at 11 a.m., and a covered-dish lunch will follow afterwards in the Fellowship Hall and all are invited.

Best wishes

Congratulations go out to Alex and Ashleigh Sharp on their wedding that took place at Mountain Green Farm Saturday evening. The wedding was performed by the Rev. Jennings W. Hobson III.

They could not have asked for a more beautiful day for their special day.
