The Town of Washington hosted its annual Christmas potluck supper on Sunday evening in historic Town Hall. Judging from the size of the festive crowd a good many of the town’s 135 residents and guests were in attendance, most attired in Yuletide shades of red and green

Washington Mayor Fred Catlin stands atop a pew in holiday bedecked Town Hall, circa 1857, to welcome one and all to the county seat’s annual Christmas potluck celebration Sunday evening.

Town residents and guests shared scrumptious dishes that included Virginia country ham, southern fried chicken, beef tenderloin, meatballs, shrimp, deviled eggs, potato casserole, macaroni salad, cakes and pies.

Seen here enjoying the festive feast — and in fine Christmas fashion — are Lucy and Dryden Whitson, children of Hampton district Supervisor-elect Keir Whitson and his wife, Susan.

Other dignitaries making merry were Supervisors Roger Welch and Chris Parrish, Vice Mayor Mary Ann Kuhn, Town Treasurer Gail Swift, Council members Katharine Leggett, Brad Schneider, and Joseph Whited, former Washington Mayor John Fox Sullivan and his wife Beverly (who received gifts from Santa and Mrs. Claus), and Businesses of Rappahannock president Theresa Wood.
