“He’s a woman’s bird,” Rappahannock resident Lisbeth Sabol says of her Yellow-Naped Amazon named “Robert,” greeted here at the Sperryville Corner Store by Ben Pierson.

“Robert says, ‘You’re beautiful’ and ‘I love you’ — two things a woman wants to hear!” says Lisbeth. “He says ‘I love you’ when he wants something from me.” Yellow-Naped Amazons, distinguished by their yellow band across the lower nape and hindneck, are endangered due largely to deforestation. Robert, who is 14, can expect to live 60 to 80 years.
