Bruce Loth takes the matter of an enormous male snapping turtle into his own hands this past week, pointing the mammoth slowpoke in the direction of the Rush River portion of his property in Harris Hollow. 

“Bruce is very careful and knows what he's doing, although usually it's snakes that we intercept trying to get to the chickens and nesting birds around the house,” observes Missy McCool, Bruce’s wife. Bruce says the smelly snapper easily weighed 30 pounds or more. The Virginia record for a snapper is 51 pounds.
