It goes without saying that Commonwealth Attorney Goff is entitled to his opinions about the actions of Governor Northam with respect to the statue of Robert E. Lee on Monument Avenue in Richmond. But the language Mr. Goff uses to express his opinion is most unfortunate.

Those who hold public office should have a proper regard and respect for the public trust they serve, and conduct themselves with a degree of dignity, not because of who they are, but because of the office they are privileged to hold. Crude and coarse language is not the way to have a civil discourse about differences. Disagree without being disagreeable.
