Thanksgiving closings: All Rappahannock County government offices will close at noon Wednesday, Nov. 24, and reopen Monday, Nov. 29. Rappahannock County Public Schools begin Thanksgiving vacation Wednesday, with classes resuming Monday.

Avon Hall in Washington will be transformed into Rappahannock’s Winter Wonderland on Sunday, Dec. 5, from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Christmas parade may be on pause again this year, but rest assured all of the usual favorites will be on hand, led by Santa and Mrs. Claus with a gift for every child.

The body also recognized former Rappahannock County Sheriff’s deputy James Anthony “Tony” Sisk, who died in October from complications after contracting COVID-19 in the line of duty as a Culpeper County deputy. Sisk, 50, previously served as the schools’ resource officer. His wife Elieen and daughter Sarah were present at the meeting and accepted the resolution passed in his honor.

The Inn at Little Washington will have a brief fireworks display on Nov. 6,  lasting 3-4 minutes between 9:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. There will be a warning shot five minutes before the fireworks begin.
